Encourage competition when building new local hospital

Windsor Regional Hospital has plenty of time to get it right.

With the tendering process for construction of its new $2-billion acute care facility not likely to start until 2025, there is every opportunity for hospital decision-makers to ensure taxpayers are getting good value on this mega-project.

The best way to do that is through a competitive bidding process.

Encouraging a greater number of bids, keeps costs down and gives all qualified local contractors and local workers a shot at building this important project.

Windsor Regional Hospital can avoid recent mistakes made by The Ottawa Hospital. By restricting competition and potential bids on construction of its new campus, we believe the Ottawa Hospital is leaving many qualified contractors and workers on the sidelines and driving up project costs.

Building new hospitals through a fair, competitive tendering process should be a no-brainer in Windsor and right across Ontario.
