PCA Applauds Alberta UCP’s Second Budget

Edmonton (February 27, 2020) – The Progressive Contractors Association of Canada (PCA), whose member companies employ thousands of Alberta construction workers, supports the Alberta government’s 2020 budget, which focuses on key infrastructure projects to boost job creation and drive economic growth.

“This is a budget that puts the focus where it should be – on creating good, well-paying Alberta jobs,” said Paul de Jong, President of the Progressive Contractors Association of Canada. “We support efforts aimed at improving the province’s business climate, getting spending under control and getting important infrastructure projects built.”

Budget 2020 includes significant infrastructure investments in health care facilities, schools and transportation networks. New projects worth an estimated $772 million over the next three years are aimed at creating as many as 3,000 new jobs by 2022.

PCA is highly supportive of the budget’s “New Jobs Blueprint” which earmarks $200 million for research and innovation and attracting those with expertise in a variety of areas including tech.

“This budget provides a great boost to Alberta’s construction industry,” added de Jong. “It brings us one step closer to restoring Alberta’s reputation as a world leader in energy, innovation and major infrastructure construction.”
