Now that the Ontario PC party has received another strong show of support from voters, PCA member companies stand ready to work with the Ford government to build an economy that’s stronger and more resistant to potential U.S. tariff threats.
“We look forward to supporting this government as it works to ease interprovincial trade barriers, and construct nation building projects, from public infrastructure, to energy and natural resource development,” said Karen Renkema VP Ontario at PCA. “Our members have a demonstrated track record and have earned a national reputation for constructing major projects that define our country and province. We’re ready to play a leading role in building Ontario’s economy.”
“With a new, strong mandate, this government has the opportunity to provide bold leadership to reaffirm Ontario as the economic engine of Canada, with a focus on supporting an innovative, productive construction sector that’s equipped to build our future,” said Renkema.
PCA is pleased by the government’s strong, ongoing support for skilled tradespeople, and its continued commitment to building critical infrastructure.
“If Ontario plans to move more quickly on the construction of major projects, it’s going to need a larger, stronger skilled construction workforce,” added Renkema. “We’re delighted the Ford government plans to expand training capacity, especially at our regional community colleges, so that more tradespeople can put their skills to work.”
In the months ahead, PCA will be urging the Ford government to provide multi-year funding for apprenticeship group sponsor programs. It also continues to advocate for fair and open tendering across all Ontario government agencies and municipalities, including energy projects. This ensures taxpayers get good value in infrastructure investments, and provides all qualified contractors and workers with an opportunity to build public projects that their tax dollars help fund.
